Circulate's Facilities

Where are you located?

We are located in the North End at 5675 Cunard Street. Just across the street from the halifax commons

What are the facilities available on-site?

Indoors:

  • 2 Gender-neutral washrooms - one accessible in the community space.
  • 4 Gender-neutral changing pods
  • Cubbies to put your items in- please leave valuables at home or in your vehicle.
  • Comfortable seating
  • Arrival and retail lounge
  • Gathering space for classes, workshops, events (booked separately)
  • Reset lounge (booked separately)
  • Pre-made snacks and beverages menu for purchase
  • Unlimited water for hydration

Outdoors:

  • One wood-fired sauna - up to 10 people
  • Seasonal rinse and cold plunge stations
  • Outdoor seating and rest area
Is the sauna sanitized after each session?

Yes - after each session, the sauna is sprayed and wiped down with disinfectant sanitizing solutions thoroughly by volunteers and staff.

How is Circulate accessible?

How we are accessible:

  • Scent mindful 
  • Ramp for accessing classes, workshops, retail and reset lounge 
  • Accessible bathroom
  • On bus transit within HRM
  • Beginner friendly with guided support for the thermal cycle
  • We aim to be financially accessible if cost is a barrier to participating. Alternative energy-exchange options are available. We are committed to accessibility and will offer additional low-cost spots as grant funding is secured and when donations replenish the accessibility fund. 

 

Accessibility constraints: 

  • No onsite parking (street parking only)
  • Pathways are unpaved but leveled and cleared
  • The sauna has 4 steps and is not wheelchair accessible at this time.

Preparing For Your Session

What should I bring?
  • A water bottle and/or thermos for tea  (no glass, please)
  • Warm, dry clothing to wear after your session or between rounds (e.g., sweater, bathrobe)
  • Two towels: one to sit on in the sauna, and one to dry off afterward
  • A bag for wet items
What should I wear?
  • Light, breathable clothing made from natural materials (like cotton or linen)
  • Shorts, tanks, t-shirts, skirts, loose dresses. Hot yoga or workout clothing works well.
  • Wrap around towels with bottom covers.
  • Bathing suit
  • Slip-on footwear (e.g., sandals or Crocs)
  • Robe, sweater, or coat for warmth
  • Socks (especially in cooler weather)
  • Hat or head covering made of natural materials (e.g., cotton, linen, wool, or a scarf)
Is there parking?

There is street parking only.

Please do not park in the driveway or the parking lot next door.

Can I bring outside food or drinks?

We are a sober space, no alcohol is permitted on site.

You are welcome to bring your own non-alcoholic beverages and simple unscented no peanuts snacks. Remember, no glass is allowed on site. No glass bottles, cups, or tupperware is permitted outside or in the sauna.

Do you have a canteen?

We have a small selection of snacks and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase on site.

How can I make the most of my session?
  • Hydrate! Arriving hydrated will be optimal to encourage more sweat and cleansing. Drink water or herbal teas beforehand. 
  • Arrive nourished, not on an empty stomach and not after a big meal. The same as you would before any exercise.

Bookings

How do I book?

You can book online HERE. We allow drop-ins if there is space, but it’s not recommended to avoid disappointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

For a full refund, you must cancel 24 hours (or more) in advance of your session’s scheduled start time. If you cancel within 24-hours of your session's start time, you will not receive a refund.

How much will my session cost?

We aim to be affordable and accessible, so you can practice thermal cycling regularly if desired. See pricing HERE.  If cost is a barrier contact booking@circulatecommunity.org.

Session Logistics

How long is a session?

Each session is 60 minutes for thermal cycling, Arrive 15 minutes before. You will have 15 minutes to transition out. Please arrive on time to get the most from your session. 

If it’s your first time especially, please be sure to arrive 15 minutes early for a brief orientation.

Can I stick around to relax or socialize after my session?

After your session, you have 15 minutes to transition out of the space to make room for the next group. If you would like to extend your stay, you can consider booking an additional session (if there’s space) or book the RESET LOUNGE.

Will I be with other people during the session?

Yes. The sauna can host up to 10 people at a time. You may meet new people, reconnect with old friends, or simply share space with others. Whether you're looking for connection or personal time, the environment supports both. If you prefer to book a private group, contact steamgoodness@gmail.com.



Can I talk, or is it quiet during the session?

At Circulate, we tend toward being a social and conversational environment. That said, we also offer quiet sessions for those who prefer silence. If you find yourself in a social session, there is no expectation that you participate in chit chat. You’re welcome to bring silence into any session, or bring quiet aids like earplugs.

 

When using outdoor spaces, we ask that you be mindful of your volume. We are positioned next to people’s homes and are committed to respecting our shared space. If the volume gets too high, we’ll offer gentle reminders to lower it.

Can we book a private group or event?

Yes! We offer private bookings for closed groups and special events.

What is a community sauna?

A community sauna is a public space that facilitates thermal cycling. Community saunas are characteristically welcoming and inclusive spaces. Here at Circulate we strive to create an environment where everyone can deeply relax, connect with others, and feel a sense of belonging. All bodies are welcome!

 

Our community sauna sessions are led by a trained Community Host. Our hosts will facilitate your session with a careful, trauma-informed approach to ensure your comfort, safety, and well-being.

What is the thermal cycle?

The thermal cycle means moving between hot and cold temperatures. This improves blood flow and helps your body relax. Read more about it here.

A community-hosted session is a gentle, supportive environment where you can relax, connect, and tune into your felt body and senses. Read more about it here to learn more.

What happens in an Open Flow session?

Open Flow sessions are self-directed for those with an existing practice and are at ease  with the thermal cycle.

Do you have a Reset Lounge?

Not yet, but it is coming soon!

Miscellaneous

Can I smoke or vape?

No smoking or vaping is allowed on site. 

What is your phone policy?

We are a screen-free space. Please leave your phone in your bag, and avoid using it in any community areas. Our staff and  volunteers may gently remind you to put your phone away if needed.

Can I take photos?

No personal photography is permitted on site. You’re welcome to take photos outside at the front door on Cunard Street.

 

Occasionally, Circulate brings in photographers to capture promotional materials. You will always be informed before your session if there will be photography, and you will be given clear directions on how to opt-out of being photographed if you do not wish to be.

Do you have wifi?

We do not have Wi-Fi on-site.

Can I bring my own essential oils?

We kindly ask that you don’t bring or add your own essential oils. We use our own safe, curated botanical blends to ensure the health and comfort of everyone. We welcome scent requests—feel free to let us know what you love!
